ANDREWS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION  VOLUNTEER ROGER SCEARCE NAMED TO DEFENSE CREDIT UNION COUNCIL HALL OF HONOR

This award commemorates a lifetime of achievement and service to the credit union movement. It honors individuals who have contributed immensely to their respective credit unions and to the Defense Credit Union Council.

Scearce served Andrews Federal Credit Union as a board volunteer, vice chairman (1999-2000), chair (2001-2004) and treasurer (2005-2022). Under Scearce’s leadership as board chair, Andrews Federal secured a community charter for the Washington, D.C. area, enabling the credit union to provide financial and educational resources to underserved portions of the community. He also headed the IT committee responsible for guiding the credit union’s digital transformation efforts.

Scearce has provided insightful leadership and guidance as policy and bylaw review chairman; nominating committee chairman; IT technology committee chairman; and joint merger committee chairman. He has also served on numerous committees, including the asset liability committee; budget committee; core loan review committee; and government and community awareness committee.

Andrews Federal leadership expressed appreciation for Scearce’s committed volunteer efforts and reiterated how valuable his insight and support have been during his tenure on the credit union’s board. “Brigadier General Scearce’s outstanding leadership, energy, and guidance have vitally enhanced mission performance at Andrews Federal Credit Union during the past 26 years,” said Kenneth Orgeron, President and CEO of Andrews Federal Credit Union. “Our credit union has grown from $483 million in assets to more than $2.5 billion during his tenure on our board. We are tremendously appreciative of his insight and knowledge as we have continued to expand our credit union and serve our members.”

In addition to his volunteer efforts on behalf of Andrews Federal, Scearce has actively supported DCUC as a senior Department of Defense consultant and on the Overseas Sub-Council. Scearce used his wide network of professional connections to support DCUC, advocate for credit unions, and strengthen connections with Pentagon and DoD senior leaders.

Scearce’s volunteer efforts also include active participation in the American Society of Military Comptrollers, (past national president); the Association of Syracuse Army Comptrollers (past national president); the Association of Government Accountants; the Association of the United States Army; and the Flag and General Officers Network (board member).

During his 28 years of service in the military, Scearce attained the most senior position in the Army Finance Corps. He served as Commandant of the U.S. Army Finance School and as Commander of the 266th Theater Finance Command, U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR).  He also served on the faculty of the U.S. Army War College.  His last duty assignment was as the Deputy Director, Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).

Scearce will be officially inducted into the DCUC Hall of Honor at the Hall of Honor Awards Dinner in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Aug. 10, 2023.
